Billing
Utility bills are generated on the 5th of each month through the Clerk-Treasurer's office. Payment is due by the 20th; payable either by mail, at Ossian State Bank, or the Town Hall.
Water Utility
The Ossian water system is comprised of five wells located within the corporate limits along with 21 miles of main and supply lines. Two elevated storage tanks provide 450,000 gallons of water storage capacity. The certified operator licensed with the State of Indiana holds both Water Distribution-Large and Water Treatment III certifications. The average demand on the system is over 300,000 gallons per day. The Town provides approximately 1300 residential, commercial, and industrial units with water service. An impending water improvement project concists of digging two new supply wells, an iron removal facility, reconditioning of the existing water towers, and the replacement of many aging and deficient lines and mains throughout the Town. Water meters are read for billing on about the 20th of each month.

Sewer Utility
The Ossian wastewater utility serves the 1300 units on the water system. In addition, units in the Kozy Kourt manufactured housing development north of Ossian and the Norwell Middle and High Schools with a combined population of approximately 1400 students are also served on a daily basis. Six lift stations direct wastewater to a 600,000 gallon per day sewage treatment facility. The certified operator licensed with the State of Indiana holds both Class I and Class II Wastewater certifications. An expansion project is currently underway. The new 900,000 gallon per day facility is expected to be completed by fall 2006. Sewer charges are based upon water consumption; a flat rate is utilized for those who are not water customers.

Stormwater Utility
A stormwater utility was recently created in Ossian to address numerous drainage issues throughout the Town. The 3-member appointed board has identified many problem areas and will continue to prioritize and corr4ect stormwater problems. The Board meets on the last Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Ossian Town Hall. A stormwater fee is included on the utility bill each month.

Street Department
The Town of Ossian covers over two square miles of land area and contains approximately 25 miles of streets. State Road 1 provides a north-south access and several county roads feed into town. The department offers services year round including: sweeping of curbed streets in the spring, road paving and repair in the summer, leaf pickup in the fall, and snowplowing/salting in the winter. Clear and safe roadways are provided year round by appropriate and visible signage and safety barriers where necessary. Mosquito spraying also takes place as needed and weather permitting. Both a certified Commercial Pesticide Operator and a Registered Technician are on staff to provide this service.

Trash & Recycling
The Town of Ossian contracts National Serv-All for garbage and recycling services. Garbage is picked up every Tuesday beginning at 6:00 a.m. The contract limits each household to one brown baby bin per week with additional bins available through the Town Hall at an additional charge. Any overflow garbage must be contained in orange bags available for purchase either at the Town Hall or Ossian Hardware. Recycling is picked up every other Tuesday. Two recycling bins are provided to each household. Any overflow recyclables must be contained in a small box or paper sack, not plastic bags. Packing or moving boxes must be broken down to less than 3 foot square. Please report any problems or misses with either garbage or recycling to the Town Hall at 622-4251.
